Certificate Level in General Medicine (Health Assistant) Program is three years academic course affiliated to CTEVT which aims to provide mid-level health professionals who are the foundation of the government’s healthcare delivery system. It is one of the prominent and popular disciplines within health profession in Nepal that they works as medical, surgical, gynecological, obstetrics, pediatrics, and other healthcare consultants. This course is specifically developed to suit the needs of lower-level physicians in Nepal. The General Medicine graduate can pursue further education which will strengthen their professional image.

Objectives of the Program

The General Medicine (HA) program aims to generate qualified and advanced knowledge as well as practical abilities in mid-level health workers, enabling them to provide high-quality health services needed for the country. Specifically, the program has the following objectives:

  • Develop competency in identifying and resolving community health problems.
  • Establish knowledge and skills to work in a variety of health care setting.
  • Establish basic knowledge and clinical skills necessary for diagnosis and management of primary health problems.
  • Establish basic knowledge and clinical skills necessary for diagnosis and management of primary health problems.

Scope of General Medicine

After completion of the three years course and passing the license exam conducted by Nepal Health Professional Council (NHPC),
individuals will become an eligible candidate for registration in the NHPC that permits them to work in any hospitals, nursing homes, and health institutions of government and the non-government sector as a mid-level health worker. The main scope and working area of health assistants (HA) are:

  • Central Hospitals
  • Policlinics
  •  Teaching Hospitals
  •  District Hospitals
  •  Primary Health Care Centers (PHCC) and Health Posts (HP)
  •  Research area
  •  NGOs/INGOs

ADMISSION CRITERIA

  • SEE passed with GPA 2.00 plus minimum C grade in compulsory English, Math and Science.
  • TSLC in CMA with minimum 66.68%.
  • Should pass entrance examination as administered by CTEVT.
